The Family and Consumer Sciences Department at MVNU offers a broad curriculum covering important areas such as interior decorating, visual merchandising, home furnishings and equipment; fashion studies, including clothing construction, pattern study, and textiles; and family management and relations, which focuses on areas such as parenting, marriage, meal management and nutrition. An additional advantage is the exciting opportunity to travel to Paris and London during our January term to study the history of fashion, interiors and architecture.
The focus of our major is twofold, preparing students for business and professional occupations, as well as providing a solid foundation for home and community living.

Family and consumer sciences students have the opportunity to study in a Christian atmosphere, with a commitment to Christ promoting an integration of the Christian view of life with important family and consumer issues.
The University’s liberal arts education provides a broad foundation to support vocational training, and because classes are small in size, close relationships among students and faculty blossom into effective learning.
The Jennie K. Moore building houses the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and the Esther Jetter Preschool and the Social Work Department. Family and consumer sciences students utilize its two specialized laboratoriesone for meal management, nutrition, and related subjects, and the other for interiors, textiles, and related areas.
A dining room, and computer lab enhance the family and consumer sciences curriculum even further. Everything that is a part of day-to-day living can be found in a family and consumer sciences classroom.
